We passed in street cars under black lights and flashing stars. Fists raised like monuments to pay respect to the bodies spent. She opened her arms, “Baby I’m in love with you!” Was it heat from the street or the cemetery’s gloom? Oh! Nola don’t break me now. I was sure we’d be lost but somehow this fade keeps me in and out. Am I singing out of tune? We fled into the bars under blood moon and hash tagged scars. Enraged by politics, the placement of planes, their intersections. I opened my eyes, “Baby I’m in love with you!” My head on your chest, the air mattress, this spinning room. Oh! Nola don’t break me now. I was sure we’d be lost but somehow this fade keeps me in and out. Am I dancing before cued? I awoke to dawn yawning your song in my head. I sent you a stray line. I fell back in bed. I dreamt in color, our souls swept the floor as we danced in the blue light and collapsed on the shore. I know this street. I’ve been here before. I knelt on the pavement and prayed at your door. I said, “Oh! Nola, don’t break me now. I was sure we’d be lost but somehow…”
